The Liverpool vs Manchester United rivalry reached a new height as well as a low after the Sunday’s game. Jurgen Klopp’s men ran riot against Erik ten Hag’s dismantled team, putting a stunning seven goals past them. Braces from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, and a late goal from Roberto Firmino piled misery upon United, ending their slim hopes of getting involved in the title race.

Liverpool’s commanding win not only drew bad blood between the players from the two sides, but also between former United full-back Gary Neville and Reds’ legend Jamie Carragher. The ex-Liverpool defender was having a field day over his fellow pundit and friend Neville, who was shell-shocked to watch his former team get battered by their arch-rivals. The spat between the two went too far, with both calling out each other on Twitter.

Neville, Carragher indulge in Twitter war over Liverpool’s thumping of United

Jamie Carragher, who played for Liverpool throughout his illustrious career, made fun of Neville earlier on Monday by claiming his fellow Sky Sports pundit had ‘cried off’ at Monday Night Football between Brentford and Fulham. An hour before the show’s start, Neville responded to clarify the situation while Carragher and Karen Carney were present in the MNF studio. He wrote:

“Behave yourself! Never meant to be on as you well know you clown! I will be relaxing looking forward to watching you eulogise over a team you’ve killed for two months…”

The tweets continued, though, as Carragher responded:

“What a season @GNev2 is having! Arsenal have got no leaders, people just take the ball off Messi now, Liverpool didn’t even play well…….”

Neville hit back by highlighting four of Carragher’s own comments that do not hold up over time. He wrote:

“2 of those are right… you will see.. Here’s you….

“Martinez can’t play in the PL. United should have Conte. Rashford should leave United. Liverpool won’t get anywhere near top 4.

However, Neville was left utterly angry after the Man Utd performance, branding their defending as ‘appalling’. He also ripped apart captain Bruno Fernandes for his actions on the field. When fellow commenter Carragher submitted a picture of himself grinning next to a furious-looking Neville, things only got worse for him. Neville said during the game:

“You might lose 2-0, you might lose 2-1, you might lose 3-0, but you do not lose 7-0 here. You just don’t”.

Carragher snapped back hilariously while making fun of Neville’s comments: “You do today.”
