A host of former stars of international cricket like Shahid Afridi, Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir were in action again when they took the field for the third edition of the Legends League Cricket at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Friday.

Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir led their respective teams in the first match of the competition. Gambhir is leading India Maharajas while Afridi has been tasked with the responsibility of captaining the Asia Lions. A total of three teams are participating in the event. World Giants are the third side. Former Australia captain Aaron Finch is leading the third team.

Shahid Afridi’s awkward moment:

Shahid Afridi witnessed an awkward moment after the game between India Maharajas and Asia Lions came to an end on Friday night. Asia Lions began their campaign with a 9-run win over India Maharajas. Batting first, the Lions scored 165 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs.

Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq led the charge with the bat for the Lions, playing a fine knock of 73. His knock came off 50 balls and was studded with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Former Sri Lanka opener Upul Tharanga also played an important knock of 40 runs while opening the innings. For India Maharajas, Stuart Binny and Parvinder Awana were the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets each.

In reply, the India Maharajas’ innings ended on 156 for 8. Skipper Gautam Gambhir scored a fighting fifty to give his team a good start but it was not enough for a win. For Asia Lions, former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for 27.

Talking about the awkward moment involving Shahid Afridi, it took place right after the game ended. Afridi walked up to Harbhajan Singh to shake hands with him. He hugged Harbhajan and was about to hug the lady umpire too before deciding against it at the last moment.
