Several India players have moved up in the latest ICC Rankings after helping the team beat Australia by 2-1 in the recently-concluded four-match Test series.

India won the first two Tests to take an unassailable lead before Australia won the third one. The fourth Test in Ahmedabad ended in a draw as India registered their fourth straight Test series win over Australia. Following the series, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has regained the sole ownership of the top spot in ICC Rankings for Test bowlers.

Ashwin finished the series with 25 wickets and was adjudged the Player of the Series. In the last rankings released by the ICC, he was the joint top-ranked Test bowler in the world alongside England’s pace spearhead James Anderson.

ICC Rankings:

Virat Kohli has also made a big move in the ICC Rankings after starring with the bat in the Ahmedabad Test. The former India skipper ended his century drought with a classy knock of 186. It was his first Test century since November 2019.

Thanks to the ton, Kohli has moved closer to the top ten. He has jumped 7 spots to take the 13th position in the ICC Rankings. Kohli is now the third highest placed Indian batter in the ICC Rankings behind Rishabh Pant (ninth) and Rohit Sharma (10th).

Axar Patel has also made good gain after impressing with the bat against the world number one Test side. He scored three fifties in the series and played a crucial role in India’s series win. The allrounder has moved up eight places to 44th on the list for batters in addition to jumping one place to fourth overall on the list for all-rounders.

Among Australian players, in-form opener Usman Khawaja has moved up two spots to seventh on the Test batter rankings after finishing the series as the highest run-scorer. Apart from him, Cameron Green has also made a good gain, jumping 11 places to 26th on the list for batters after he scored his maiden Test century in the fourth Test.
