India and Australia will be resuming their rivalry in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), on Friday (March 17), when they lock horns in the first match of the three-ODI series. The first match is scheduled to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Both the teams will be looking to make a winning start to the series and gain the momentum. Australia, however, might have to do it without their veteran opener David Warner. The veteran batsman could reportedly miss the series-opener in Mumbai due to the elbow injury that he had sustained during the Delhi Test last month.

The southpaw was hit on his elbow by a short ball from Mohammed Siraj during the second Test. Scans confirmed that David Warner suffered a hairline fracture as he was subsequently ruled out of the four-match Test series.

David Warner likely to miss first ODI:

David Warner had returned home after suffering the injury and recently landed in India for the ODIs. And while he was expected to be fit for the first ODI, Fox Sports has reported otherwise. The news outlet has claimed that the opener is at risk of missing the series-opener as he continues to recover from the hairline fracture on his elbow.

In case, the star opener fails to recover in time for the Mumbai ODI, wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis could open the innings alongside Travis Head. Inglis has arrived in India following his explosive knock of 138 off 110 balls in the Marsh Cup final against South Australia.

Meanwhile, India will also be without their skipper and opener Rohit Sharma for the first ODI. The batting star will miss the first game due to family reasons. In his absence, Hardik Pandya will be leading the Men in Blue.
