Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra feels Delhi Capitals might have a few concerns in their batting order going into the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. He also opined Delhi Capitals’ performance in the cash-rich league will be decided by their batting.
With the IPL 2023, scheduled to begin in a week, cricket experts have started to share opinions on IPL teams and players. Chopra spoke about Delhi’s issues in the batting order and questioned Delhi Capitals’ number 4 for the IPL.
“David Warner is the new captain. If I try to see their batting order, it is slightly difficult – Prithvi Shaw and David Warner as openers. I am saying Mitchell Marsh at No. 3. Can Sarfaraz Khan fill Rishabh Pant’s spot or Manish Pandey at No. 4?”
Chopra further continued that the South African batter Rilee Rossouw can bat at the No.5 followed by Sarfaraz Khan–and then the all-rounder Axar Patel. According to Aakash Chopra, the batting order looks slightly topsy-turvy.
“Then Rilee Rossouw at No. 5. Then you will again see a gap. You can put Sarfaraz there at No. 6 and after that Axar Patel and then the four bowlers. I know what you are thinking – that much might is not seen. The batting order is looking slightly topsy-turvy to me,” Aakash Chopra maintained.
Delhi Capitals will hugely miss their skipper Rishabh Pant, especially in the middle order, who can take away the game easily from the opposition in a short period. According to reports Delhi Capitals are looking at Abhishek Porel, Luvnith Sisodia, Sheldon Jackson, and a few others as a replacement for Rishabh Pant.

Aakash Chopra admitted that if David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Prithvi Shaw have a good tournament, then things might look different for the Delhi-based franchise, as Rilee Rossouw can make an impact on the team, who had a very good PSL with Multan Sultans.
“However, these things can all change. It can happen if David Warner has a great tournament, Mitchell Marsh has an amazing tournament, Prithvi Shaw sets the stage absolutely on fire and then Rilee Rossouw also suddenly comes to the fore. In my opinion, Delhi’s season will be decided by their batting.”
Delhi Capitals will take on the Lucknow Super Giants in their first match of the 2023 season. Capitals began their preparation under the guidance of Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi with the likes of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Ishant Sharma, and Prithvi Shaw among the players present in the preseason camp.
