Indian legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh was full of praise for Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson, who played an astounding knock against the Gujarat Titans in a full-packed Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The stylish right-hander batter played a blazing knock of 60 runs off just 32 balls as he struck a mounting six sixes and three fours in his innings.
During the post-match analysis in Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh lauded Sanju Samson for his exceptional knock and rated him as a special player, and reckoned that Samson provided a perfect platform for their finisher Shimron Hetmyer to finish the match.
“Huge, a captain’s knock. Such players have more courage than other players. He is a special player. He had an even bigger impact than Hetmyer because he made the game and Shimron Hetmyer finished it,” Harbhajan Singh said.
Harbhajan Singh cited the example of MS Dhoni for taking the match deep in the final overs and asserted that Hetymer believes in his ability to finish the game for his side just like the legendary Indian skipper.
“If you have confidence in your ability, you can take the match deep. MS Dhoni used to take the game deep because he didn’t have any doubt over his ability. He knew that if he stays till the end, he will finish the match. Hetmyer also did that. He stayed till the end and finished the match but who took the match till the end – Sanju Samson,” he added.
Sanju Samson batted well to set up perfect for their Rajasthan Royals finisher Shimron Hetmyer 56* (26) to complete the chase. The West Indian batted beautifully and held his nerve in the final few overs to help his team cross the line with 4 balls to spare.

Harbhajan Singh believes that Sanju Samson needs to be given a consistent opportunity in the Indian team, as he is one of the most talented players in the world who can play the spinners and fast-bowlers extremely well and said that he wins big matches for the country.
“This player has so much ability, he should play for India. We talk about him (Samson) again and again, that he plays the spinners and fast bowlers extremely well. He should get consistent opportunities in Team India as well. I am his fan, not from today, but for many years, because of the sort of player he is, he can win big matches,” Harbhajan Singh added.
Sanju Samson has done exceptionally well in limited opportunities in ODI cricket so far. Samson has scored 330 runs in 11 ODIs so far at an impressive batting average of 66. 28 years old, to date has featured for India in 11 ODIs and 17 T20Is for India and will look to put up an impressive performance for Rajasthan Royals and make his case strong for the Indian team.
