If a takeover of the Southend United is successful, Dwayne Johnson popularly known as ‘The Rock’ is interested in releasing a documentary about the National League side through his production business, something his fellow Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and and Rob McElhenney have done at Wrexham since their takeover of the club.

Southend has been troubled with off-field problems, including a series of winding-up petitions, ever since dropping out of the English Football League for the first time in more than a century back in 2021. The Blues’ current owner, Ron Martin, made the announcement that he was trying to sell the team back in March.

Dwayne Johnson could enter English football if Ray Winstone bid for Southend is accepted

Southend said on Friday that they are in negotiations with three companies about a prospective transaction, including one company that wants to emulate Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney by making a documentary that follows the negotiations from a fly-on-the-wall perspective.

The Southend Echo reports that a group of local businessmen, including members of the sports management organisation Integral Sports Management, a corporation co-founded by British actor Ray Winstone, are among the people interested in buying the club.

According to the source, the group has already spoken with Johnson’s production business, Seven Bucks Production, about the prospect of producing a documentary like to the one Reynolds and McElhenney have produced since owning Wrexham. The producing business has stated that they are open to doing so.

Since switching from professional wrestling to Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson has become one of the most well-known persons on the globe. The multiple-time former WWE champion is also the owner of the XFL and has been in a number of international blockbusters, such as the Fast & Furious series.

Given that Dwayne Johnson presently has over 380 million followers on Instagram alone, his engagement with any possible initiative has the potential to increase interest in Southend around the globe. Southend came in eighth place in the National League this year, just missing out on a playoff spot. Another winding-up petition involving the club is now pending and has been postponed until July 12.

Since 2008, Martin has been the club’s owner. As a result of the team’s off-field problems, Martin has faced several fan demonstrations. The club is moving forward with plans to leave its existing home at Roots Hall and construct a brand-new stadium at Fossetts Farm despite their financial woes.
