Former Australia pace spearhead Glenn McGrath has given his opinion on the much-talked about dismissal of Shubman Gill during the recently-concluded ICC World Test Championship final.
The ICC WTC Final concluded on Sunday as Australia thrashed India by 209 runs to clinch their maiden WTC title. And while Australia thoroughly dominated India to win the contest, the controversial dismissal of Shubman Gill was one of the biggest talking points.
Set a huge target of 444 runs, India were off to a good start. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started positively and were scoring almost 6 runs per over before the latter was dismissed. He edged Scott Boland’s delivery towards Cameron Green at gully where the allrounder dived to his left and took a one-handed catch. While Green took the catch while his fingers were in the air, the point of discussion was whether the ball touched the ground.

Glenn McGrath on Shubman Gill catch:
Third umpire Richard Kettleborough took some time to reach a conclusion before eventually deciding to adjudge Shubman Gill out. And the decision caused quite an uproar among the Indian fans. The fans watching the game from the stands were heard shouting ‘cheater, cheater’ while some expressed their shock on social media.
However, Glenn McGrath believes that the catch from Green was legitimate and that he was happy with the call in the end. Speaking to PTI, the legendary pacer said said that if the roles had been reversed and India had got the reward for such a catch, he would have still been happy.
”I think most of those catches are out. We find ways to give it not out which I like to go the other way. So, I was happy with it. And if it was India taking that catch, I would have been happy too. I’m not just saying from an Australian perspective but the way it goes,” said McGrath.
