WWE Money in the Bank is the next PLE event of the promotion that is scheduled for July 1st. Every year WWE organize this event with major ladder matches holding briefcases which gives the winner an opportunity to get a title shot anywhere, anytime.
Since 2005 this had been a major match. At first, Money in the Bank ladder matches were booked in WrestleMania and from 2010 they started organising a gimmick pay per view using the same name. The tradition is still going pretty strong. From 2017 WWE started to host women’s ladder matches as well on the same concept.
The Decline of Money in the Bank: How the Once-Impactful Concept Lost Its Significance
It might be an excellent tradition of WWE but with time, somehow it is getting a little stale. The last time WWE booked a meaningful and relevant MITB ladder match was back in 2016 when Dean Ambrose won the ladder match and cashed it in on Seth Rollins to win his first and only WWE World Championship.
But after that most of the MITB bookings were irrelevant. 2017 was the year when everything started to go downhill. Barron Corbin won the MITB in the mentioned year, but failed to cash it in successfully and right now he is a jobber. Braun Strowman won in 2018 and did not need this victory since he was destined to be a top star.
Money In The Bank Is Getting Irrelevant With Time
Brock Lesnar won in 2019, once again, he did not need this since he was already a top star. Otis won in 2020, and it was one of the worst MITB wins ever. In 2021 it was Big E who could not be a big star either who completely lost his main event push after dropping the WWE title. In 2022 it was Austin Theory, who had the worst ever MITB cash in WWE history.
And about the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, apart from Carmella, none of the women carried the briefcase for more than 24 hours. Some of the recent winners were the worst. Liv Morgan lost her push just after dropping the title, and Nikki Cross is nothing but a jobber right now.
So we can clearly see that Money in the Bank has completely lost its charm and it is nothing like the glory of the Royal Rumble match for the original King of the Ring. This year LA Knight and Iyo Sky are the favourite to win they are respective MITB matches. We hope they become big stars in the future. We also hope that the glory of MITB gets restored.
