England bowler Ollie Robinson has been hogging the limelight for all the wrong reasons in recent days. The right-arm pacer has become a villain for the Australian fans with his behaviour and statements during the recently-concluded first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

And Ollie Robinson has been facing brutal trolling on social media after one of his comments spectacularly backfired as Australia defeated England by 2 wickets. At stumps on day three, the fast-bowler tried to ramp up the mind games by taking a shot at Australia’s tail. His comments came after the visitors lost four wickets for just 14 runs in the first innings.

“It’s something we’ve spoken about as a group,” Robinson said. We’ve said once we get past (Pat) Cummins, we feel like they’ve got three No. 11’s (in Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland and Josh Hazlewood).

“It’s something we can target through the series and try to wrap things up quite quick and give us that momentum throughout the series,” he added.

Ollie Robinson’s comments backfire:

It did not take long for Ollie Robinson’s comments to backfire. After the poor show in the first innings, Australia’s tailenders gave the England pacer a perfect reply by playing a huge role in the win in the first Ashes Test. The likes of Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland came up with brave batting performances to power Australia to a famous win.

Boland walked out as nightwatchman on day four and did well to survive the remaining overs. He also spend a good amount of time on the pitch on the fifth day before being dismissed for 20. Lyon, on the other hand, scored an unbeaten 16 and shared an unbeaten match-winning stand of 55 runs with Cummins who remained unbeaten on 44.

And as Australia won the game, Robinson started trending on social media for all the wrong reason. Here are some of the reactions to his comments:
