The current WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther recently surpassed one year mark as the Intercontinental Champion. He is the first wrestler in 36 years to hold be prestigious Intercontinental title for one long year. The last wrestler to have such a historic achievement was the Honky Tonk Man.

Speaking of the Honky Tonk Man, he had been the longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion with an iconic 454 days mark. Gunther is so close to beating the record. He is less than 3 months away from setting a new record, and the way he has been booked so far, it looks like he is going to achieve the impossible soon.

Gunther Opens Up: The Stark Differences Between Him and Roman Reigns’ Historic Title Runs

The Austrian professional wrestler had been amazing since joining the main roster and he is not the only one who is breaking records. Much like him, the current WWE Universal Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns also broke a record after 36 long years after crossing thousand day landmark as the WWE Universal Heavyweight champion. He is the first WWE star in 36 years to hold a world title for 1000 days.

The Ring General recently made comparisons of himself and the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns because of the similarities of the records they have set recently. Recently he spoke to WrestlingNews.Co When he was asked about potentially facing Roman Reigns, the Austrian professional wrestler said;

Gunther Compares His Reign With Roman Reigns’ Reign

“That’s a good question. I think that’s an interesting one down the line too. I think right now we’re very far apart from each other in what we have to do. We’re on different brands. Roman is on this never seen before title reign. I myself, I’m in the midst of making history. So once all that is said and done, we’ll see if that’s gonna happen.

“In terms of the Royal Rumble, yes. It was a very long struggle being in first and then failing at the end, but just by an inch. At the end overall, I think that was a very important night for me in my career, because I think it was very unexpected. So yeah, I think I rebounded very good from that, and we’ll see what happens at the next Royal Rumble.”

At this moment, Gunther vs. Roman Reigns is nothing less than a dream match. It might not be happening at this stage but surely it will happen at some point in the future. A lot of wrestling pundits and fans are already giving their verdicts on why it should be the Ring General who should be the one to dethrone Roman Reigns. One thing we can guarantee; he would soon win a World Championship soon.
