New-looking Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal become the first Indian pair to score two consecutive hundred-run partnerships on the West Indies soil. The Indian openers once again continued their fine form in West Indies following their brilliant batting performance in the 1st test of the two-match test series.

Winning the toss West Indies opted to bowl against the mighty Indian batting lineup,  India batted brilliantly well in the 1st innings, with Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal providing a fantastic start to the innings, as they formed a second consecutive 100 runs partnership in two innings of the West Indies tour followed by Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja putting a partnership to take India to 288-4 at the end of Day 1’s play.

Yashasvi Jaiswal played well in the 1st innings on Day 1 before chasing the ball of Jason Holder outside the 0ff-stump to get caught by Kirk Mckenzie for well-made 57 runs including nine fours and one six in his innings, whereas Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was rattled by Jomel Warrican after scoring 80 runs in the 1st innings.

Team  India’s Opening partnership has been a cause of concern in the last couple of years, as the Indian openers could not give their side a much-needed start at the top of the order, with KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Rohit Sharma inconsistent in the longer format of the game but it looks like Yashasvi Jaiswal would get a long rope to prove his mettle at the top of the order.

With 139 runs partnership in the 1st innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma now have the joint most century partnership in away series tying up with the likes of legendary Sunil Gavaskar- Chetan Chauhan, Virender Sehwag-Aakash Chopra and Wasim Jaffer-Virender Sehwag thus becoming the fourth successful pair to two successful century partnership for India.

The newly-formed Indian openers played exceedingly well against the West Indies on the 2nd test, as both openers played well to score their half-century in the 1st innings and were dismissed after being well settled in the middle but the openers the much-needed momentum for the team in the 1st innings and would be crucial for the team in the 2nd innings and they will look to continue the fine form against the high-quality opponent in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
