Shawn Michaels is a legend of professional wrestling and a two times WWE Hall of Famer. He is currently in charge of WWE NXT which is the development territory of the promotion. The Heart Break Kid is widely considered one of the best wrestlers to ever step foot into a wrestling ring. He is also believed to be one of the most technically gifted wrestlers ever.

But recently Shawn Michaels said that he is pretty much done from the world from in ring action. His last match took place back in 2019 and after that he never returned to in ring action. This was also his first match in 9 long years. Recently the former four times WWE World Champion spoke to Sportskeeda where he explained why he would never return to in ring action;

From Wrestling Icon to Mentor: Shawn Michaels’ Thoughts on Not Returning to the Ring

“No, I absolutely do not think about that at all anymore. I’m so enamoured and enjoy helping these young men and women come through NXT. I’ve had my time in the sun and I enjoyed every bit of it, but I so thoroughly enjoy being able to help them and allow them to have the same opportunities that I had. I was very happy to be able to work with Finn Balor in his second run in NXT because I certainly missed out on his first time.

“I have a great deal of admiration and respect for Finn and everything he’s brought to NXT. Now, this is about the generation of Bronn Breakker, Julius and Brutus Creed, Tiffany Stratton. We have a number of young men and women who have come through NXT that are going to be huge superstars on the main roster.

Shawn Michaels’ Last Appearance Took Place In Crown Jewel 2019

“I don’t think anybody is going to be surprised if they see Bronn Breakker and Carmelo Hayes headlining a WrestleMania in the very near future. That’s what I’m obviously focused on. We look forward to bringing the Great American Bash to Texas and putting together a great card, and me doing everything I can to help them out and bring them success in the future.”

At WrestleMania XXVI, Michaels faced the Undertaker in a streak vs career match and this match is widely considered as one of the best matches in professional wrestling history. There is big competition to his previous encounter against the Undertaker from WrestleMania XXV about being the best WrestleMania match ever.

He retired from action after this match and he never wanted to return to in ring action either. But he finally made his return to action in 2019 for WWE‘s Saudi event Crown Jewel. This was a dream match between D Generation X and the Brothers of Destruction, a match that everybody dreamed to watch.

The match looked amazing on paper but unfortunately, it was a terrible match. All the wrestlers involved in this match were pretty much out of their prime so they had no chance of showcasing a 5 star competition. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the final match of Michaels and he decided never to return to in ring action after this match.
