One half of the current Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion Sami Zayn had a mega feud with Roman Reigns earlier this year. While entering this feud, Sami was the most over wrestler of WWE among the fans. He was extremely popular and he earned his popularity mostly during his storyline as a member of the Bloodline.
The rivalry started at Royal Rumble when Roman Reigns started beating down Kevin Owens after his match against him. Needless to say it was the main event of the night. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are real life best friends and their friendship had always been portrayed in WWE storylines as well.
Unraveling the Drama: Sami Zayn Explains How His Intense Rivalry with Roman Reigns Came to an End
Sami finally had enough and stopped Roman Reigns from beating down Owens, and ultimately he ended up attacking Roman. This started a feud between the two and it continued for a while. Sami recently spoke with Xfinity where he explained his opinion on how he is rivalry with Roman Reigns ended. Here is what he had to say;
“It would have been kind of perfect — a storybook ending if I had dethroned Roman. Sure, of course. But if you look at it more, you know, 5 years from now, 10 years from now, if you look at the totality of where it all kind of lies, I think you would just see that that’s one great chapter, hopefully, in a story,” said Zayn.
Sami Zayn Had A Feud With Roman Reigns Earlier This Year
“For sure, I think, unquestionably, whether it was the right or wrong decision or whatever it was, if the way it ended, there’s no question that had it gone my way, for example, that night in Montreal or at WrestleMania or something like that with Roman, unquestionably would have been a moment that would have definitely been replayed many times,” stated one-half of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
“But I still think what we did was very, very special, and I think as you can see by what’s continuing to happen with The Usos and Roman, it’s still … that story still has some special moments. So, I don’t know, I think this is one of those things you just need time to see where it all falls,” said the WWE star
Sami challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber in a losing effort and this was pretty much it for this feud. Sami was never considered a top name to dethrone Roman Reigns, neither he was seen a main event star. But he is holding the WWE Undisputed Tag Team titles with his real life best friend Kevin Owens quite strongly right now.
