Former Sri Lankan pacer Chaminda Vaas feels that records are meant to be broken as prolific Indian batter Virat Kohli is still young and can contribute to the team’s success in all three formats. Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar are among the list of best batters to ever play cricket, as they contributed immensely to the Indian team over the years.
Ever since Virat Kohli started his International career, he has been compared with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, the most decorated batsman in the history of the game. And with Kohli scoring runs at a remarkable consistency for India in all three formats, the comparison between the two stalwarts rises as the Indian batting maestro has been chasing the records of the master blaster in International cricket.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Chaminda Vaas said that records are always there to be broken as any player cannot keep a record of all time and believes that Virat Kohli has got age on his side to do well for the Indian team in coming years and feels that it is unfair to expect him to perform in every game and reckons that he got his form back in International Cricket.

“Records are there to be broken, you know, you can’t keep records all the time. Different eras, different players, but the way I see it, Kohli is still young and has a lot of time.
“Age is just a number, and the way he’s performing, I’m sure he will do well for Indian cricket. We have seen different generations in which India has produced excellent cricketers.
“Most people want Kohli to perform all the time. If he fails in one or two games, people react differently, because Kohli has been scoring right from the beginning of his career. A player can go out of touch, but there is no doubt about his class. Even on the West Indies tour, he has performed,” Chaminda Vaas said.
Many cricketers believe that the former Indian skipper has a very got chance of breaking the record of the Indian legend in International Cricket. He is 24 tons away from equaling the legendary batter’s record of most centuries in cricket.
Virat Kohli Wants To Improve And Contribute To Indian Team – Chaminda Vaas
Chaminda Vaas feels that Virat Kohli has got things to improve and contribute to the team’s success and recalled that people expected Sachin Tendulkar to perform in every game in the latter part of his career and asserted that it can’t happen every time in the game.

“He wants to improve and contribute to Indian cricket. I’m sure he will do well. Even in (Sachin) Tendulkar’s latter part, people expected him to perform in every match.
“But that can’t happen all the time. Maybe that’s why Kohli is lacking right now. His fitness level and technique is really good, as far as I’m concerned,” Chaminda Vaas added.
Sachin Tendulkar was widely regarded as the world’s best batsman in the world of cricket. The former Indian batting legend is one of the greatest cricketers of all time and became the only player in the history of international cricket to score a ‘century of centuries’ with 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs.
Virat Kohli is the only cricketer, who is close to the Indian legend in terms of the number of centuries as many believe that he could surpass the record of Sachin Tendulkar before he retires from International cricket.
