Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra feels that Royal Challengers Bangalore has done considerably well in the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League despite not winning the championship in the league. The RCB management parted ways with Mike Hesson and head coach Sanjay Bangar and appointed Andy Flower as the coach for the next three seasons.

The Bangalore-based franchise has been one of the most consistent sides in the last few years before the 2023 season reached the playoffs but is unable to get through the final hurdle. During the tenure of Mike Hesson, the team secured playoff berths for three consecutive years, but the team is looking for fresh faces in the support staff to win the championship next season.

Speaking on his youtube channel, Aakash Chopra feels that Royal Challengers Bangalore has not done well in the league despite having a huge fan base and asserted that the team has done exceedingly well to reach the playoffs of the tournament in three consecutive seasons in the last four years.

“The Royal Challengers Bangalore have appointed a new coach. Andy Flower will become RCB’s coach. It also means Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar’s tenure ends here. This team has a huge fan base but has not been that successful,” he added.

“The previous performances have not been ordinary at all. It has now become a 10-team tournament and reaching the playoffs in three of the last four years is not bad at all. You didn’t qualify last year, but then, so be it,” Aakash Chopra said.

Andy Flower is appointed as the head coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore  (RCB) for the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former Zimbabwe cricketer took on coaching positions in other T20 leagues throughout the world and experienced success. Flower can be a handy addition to the Royal Challengers Bangalore setup, as he has the experience of guiding teams to elusive titles in franchise leagues.

His Hands Will Be Slightly Tied Because Have The Same Players Only – Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra believes that Andy Flower cannot make any drastic change in the team, as they will not have a mega auction, and reckons that it will be difficult for the incoming coach to address the weakness in the team as he will have to deal with the same set of players next season.

“The winds of change have started blowing now. What will Andy Flower have to do? In my opinion, if you are not part of a mega auction, you won’t be able to do too much movement. You won’t be able to address your prevailing weaknesses,” he said.

“If a new coaching staff comes at the time of a mega auction, you actually have the slate clean and you start afresh, but if you come in the middle as Andy Flower has come now, his hands will be slightly tied because you have the same players only,” Aakash Chopra added.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be looking to end their long wait for their maiden IPL trophy in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) under the leadership of Faf Du Plessis.
