Young Indian batter Tilak Varma has credited Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Indian Premier League for his success in the game. The 20-year-old has been a bright spot for India in the T20 series against West Indies despite the team’s consecutive loss in the two games.
Tilak Varma made his T20I debut in the ongoing series between India and West Indies and the youngster has been the best batter for India in the series scoring his first half-century in the 2nd T20 International on a wicket where most of the Indian batters struggled to get going in Guyana.
Speaking to the media after the team’s loss against West Indies, Tilak Varma said that Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma have been an inspiration for him in his cricketing career and credited the Indian skipper for his motivation during the IPL and added that Rohit Sharma always insists him to enjoy the game and wants to continue his fine form going into the next few games.

“My inspiration has been Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma. I spend more time with Rohit bhai. In my first IPL, he told me that Tilak you are an all-format cricketer. It boosted my confidence. His guidance has been massive for me.
“Rohit Sharma has been a big support system to me. He always talks to me and tells me to enjoy the game. For me, the turning point has been the IPL. The performance has helped me to play for India. Going forward I would like to continue it,” Tilak Varma said.
The left-handed batter was brought by the five-time champion for INR 1.7 crore before the 2022 edition following his exploits in the Under-19 World Cup in 2020. In IPL 2023 he showed the ability to anchor the innings at a very strike rate–and rescue the team in case of a top-order failure which helped him to make it into the Indian team for the T20 series against West Indies.
Rahul Dravid Always Tell Us To Follow The Basics And Spend More Time On The Wicket – Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma said that working with Indian head coach Rahul Dravid during the U-19 World Cup days has helped him big time as he wants to spend more time on the wicket to score runs and also the Indian skipper wants him to follow his same game plan as in domestic and IPL cricket.

“I have been working with Rahul sir since my U-19 World Cup days. He always tells us to follow the basics and spend more time on the wicket. Hardik Bhai was also telling me the same. He told me that you have done well in the domestic and the IPL, follow your basics and enjoy your game,” Tilak Varma added.
The left-handed youngster has done exceptionally well for India in the first two games of the 5-match series against West Indies and has shown excellent composure to bat on the tough Caribbean wickets and will look to continue his fine form going forward
