Cricket Association of Bengal President Snehasish Ganguly confirmed that the fire broke out during the renovation work for the ODI World Cup 2023 on Wednesday night following the revised schedule of the matches of the marquee event in the country.
According to the reports, the fire broke out on the false ceiling of the players’ dressing room and it was said that the fire was caused due to short circuit and the equipment and belongings of the players which were kept in the dressing room were reportedly burnt.
The fire department was immediately informed about the incident in the stadium and the situation was brought under control after the efforts of two fire engines.
Speaking to the reporters about the incident, Snehasish Ganguly confirmed the news regarding the fire in the dressing room and revealed that the renovation workers informed the fire department regarding the broke out news and said that they were no damage in the dressing room and only cables were burnt during the fire accident.

“A fire broke out last night at 11.50 pm. People who were working here saw smoke and then the fire. Immediately, two fire tenders were pressed into action and flames were doused in no time.
“There was no damage to the dressing room as such. Only some cables were burnt. But certainly, there is no sabotage angle,” CAB president Snehasish Ganguly said.
The renovation working department informed the fire department and two fire engines brought the situation under control within an hour on Wednesday night and an investigation regarding the matter is likely to take place as the renovation work is expected to be completed before September 15.
With the ODI World Cup being scheduled in the three-month time, the fire in Eden Gardens has raised the question about the infrastructure of the iconic stadium going into the marquee event in the country.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently renovating the stadiums that are in line to host the matches of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 and they are looking to provide world-class facilities for the teams and fans to watch spectacle in the country after 12 long years.
