Cody Rhodes started his professional wrestling career at WWE at a very young age. On his first run in the promotion he was mostly treated as a mid card star and he won multiple mid card championships like the Intercontinental title and the Tag Team title. He was an extremely talented wrestler but he could never get promoted on to the main event level in WWE.
In 2016 he decided to leave WWE and he joined the independent circuit. In 2019 he started working on the All Elite Wrestling where he was treated as a mid card once again. Nobody ever expected him to leave AEW for WWE again since he was one of the founding members of the new promotion which is also a big Rival to WWE.

Cody Rhodes’ Emotional Reflection: How WWE Became More Than Just A Workplace
But the unthinkable actually happened when Cody Rhodes returned to WWE last year. He was presented as the surprise opponent of Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38. This was the first time in his professional wrestling career that he got treated as a main event star in a major wrestling promotion. He kept on having back to back big victories.
Rhodes even won the men’s Royal Rumble match of this year and earned the opportunity to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship on the main event of WrestleMania 39. Unfortunately he lost the challenge, and this was also his first defeat since his return to the promotion. But he kept on maintaining his main event status even after this defeat. Simply he explained how WWE feels like a home to him once again when he spoke to Fightful;

Cody Rhodes Defeated Brock Lesnar At Summerslam
“Night after WrestleMania in Dallas. Night after WrestleMania in Dallas, I saw so many kids in the crowd who didn’t care about what I had done for three years or the ten years before that. They were present, in the moment, they thought the guy who had just come in was cool and they were going to be part of it and they liked the energy. It was at that point where I felt, the thing you have been seeking, the cool moves, great.
“Wonderful promos, great. Trying to make them wonderful and trying to hit home runs with everything, but that connection is what we do. It’s why guys and girls get into it and it’s why it’s hard to walk away and why it’s so fun to come back. That night at WrestleMania, I knew something special was happening and I’m here for it.”

Cody Rhodes had a huge victory over Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam last Friday. This was a huge boost for him to maintain his main event status. It is heavily rumoured that challenge Roman Reigns once again for the title and this time at WrestleMania 40. A lot of fans and critics want to believe in the theory that he is the one who would dethrone Roman Reigns.
