Former Indian pacer RP Singh feels that young Indian opener Shubman Gill’s form is a cause of concern for the Indian team going into the Asia Cup 2023. The 23-year-old failed to make an impact for the team in the series so far and has struggled to get going in the T20 series.

The youngster had been in top form before the start of the International calendar as the played a crucial role for Gujarat Titans in the cash-rich league. In IPL 2023 season, the Indian youngster amassed 851 runs at an average of 60.79 and a strike rate of 156.43 but failed to produce a good performance for the team in the West Indies tour.

Speaking on Jiocinema, RP Singh said that the Indian team should look into the form of the young opener Shubman Gill as his form has dipped drastically in all three formats and raised his concern over the batting against Left-arm spinners and added that the pitches in the Caribbean soil were challenging for both teams but the quality batter must try to different situations.

“I think the Indian team might be concerned about Shubman Gill already because he hasn’t managed to score big for quite a long time. He has not done well against the left-arm spinners on a few occasions, too.

“The pitches are a bit challenging, no doubt, but if you’re playing at the international level, you’ll encounter different types of surfaces.

“It’s not like Indian pitches will always be the same, allowing you to play big shots through the line. But, I feel the Indian team has decided that Shubman (Gill) will be opening the innings with Rohit Sharma in the future,” RP Singh said.

Shubman Gill scored only 45 runs in three innings during the Test series, where most of the Indian top-orders batters achieved success and had decent ODI series as he scored a half-century in the final game and the youngster could not make an impact in the T20 series scoring only 16 runs in the three games.

Shubman Gill Is A Quality Player and I Am Sure He Will Figure It Out – Abhinav Mukund

“India should be a bit concerned about Shubman Gill’s form in this series. But that being said, he is a quality player, and I am sure he will figure it out. I feel he is getting into too much of a shell and then playing an attacking shot and getting dismissed,” Abhinav Mukund said.

Shubman Gill will look to turn things around in the final two games for the Indian team in T20 cricket and the form of the youngster will be crucial for the Men in Blue going into the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2032.
