England head coach Brendon McCullum feels that the young Indian opener Shubman Gill has more talent than other international players at present. The 24-year-old failed to get going in the recently concluded West Indies series being inconsistent with his performance in all three formats of the game.
The youngster has worked with Brendon McCullum during his stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2020 and 2021 before moving to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and the former New Zealander skipper has moved from the franchise to take up the role of England’s test skipper in the longer format of the game.
Speaking about Shubman Gill’s ability in the CEAT Awards show, Brendon McCullum said that he enjoyed working with Indian openers in Kolkata Knight Riders and hailed him as one of the best batters in the world at the moment.
“Shubman Gill is someone I really enjoyed working with. He’s someone who has more talent than most of the international players,” Brendon McCullum said.
Shubman Gill has been in terrific form, since the start of 2023, as he smashed two hundred and a double hundred in ODI Cricket and the youngster has been performing exceedingly well for the Indian team in all three formats of the game just before the West Indies tour including brilliant IPL with Gujarat Titans in 2023 season.
The right-handed opener is touted to be the next big thing in Indian cricket and the prolific batter is expected to be the next superstar from India. He has been exceptional for the Men in Blue in his short cricketing career proving to be a vital cog for the Indian team in all three formats of the game.
In IPL 2023 season, the Indian youngster has slammed 851 runs at an average of 60.79 and a strike rate of 156.43. The Indian youngster has been in fantastic form in International cricket this year, with an average of over 60 across three formats, including five centuries in 17 matches before the West Indies tour.
The star opener will look to carry his terrific form going into the forthcoming tournaments, as he is regarded as one of the rising stars in world cricket and would be a crucial player for India in the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.
