Asia Cup 2023: I Think He Showed Different Sorts Of Temperament To His Batting At Times – Dinesh Karthik Hails Tilak Varma For His Adaptability In International Cricket
Indian veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is impressed by the composure and adaptability shown by the Indian youngster Tilak Varma in International cricket. The 20-year-old has impressed everyone with his fearless batting in the middle order which helped him earn a place in the India squad for the Asia Cup 2023.
The left-handed youngster has been the standout batter for India in the West Indies T20 series and showed a lot of class and temperament batting in International cricket and is potentially seen as a candidate to be part of the India squad for the ODI World Cup after being named in the Asia Cup squad.
Speaking in a Cricket World Cup commercial, Dinesh Karthik hailed young Tilak Varma for his brilliance in International cricket as he played exceedingly well for India in the shorter format of the game and lauded him for finishing a few games for the team in the West Indies series and said that he bowl some off-spin in the middle, which makes special going into the Asia Cup.
“I was very impressed with Tilak Varma, I think he showed different sorts of temperament to his batting at times he went all guns blazing up the order, then there was a game where he had to finish it off with Hardik Pandya and he did that as well,” Dinesh Karthik said.

“More important is that he can add off-spin and we have not had somebody who can roll their arm over so that makes that player very special,” Dinesh Karthik added.
Tilak Varma was the best batter for India in the series against the Men in Maroon as he batted brilliantly on tough wickets in West Indies and the youngster is expected to be given the opportunity the playing 11 for the Asia Cup 2023 before deciding on his inclusion for the ODI World Cup in India.

Dinesh Karthik raised concern about the lack of left-hander in the team, With Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav seen as backup options in the team for Shreyas Iyer, and believes that Men in Blue will address these issues in the Asia Cup 2023.
“Do we need a left-hander? Do we look at Tilak Varma or is Suryakumar (Yadav) that option,” Dinesh Karthik added.

“Is it wrong to say he (Suryakumar) is just a right-hander because he plays all the types of sweeps that are available in the game and makes it really hard for the spinners?” Dinesh Karthik further added.
Both Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have found their place in India’s 17-men squad for the Asia Cup with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul returning to the team after a long-standing injury.
