Under-performing India middle order Suryakumar Yadav is hopeful of cracking the code in the ODI cricket after his poor form in the format over a long period and revealed that he is having conversations with Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli to improve his game in the 50-over format of the game.
The 32-year-old could not make an impact for the team in the recently concluded West Indies ODI Series. There were many talks around, his performance in the ODI format as he failed to capitalize on the limited opportunity and his place in the 15-men squad for the ODI World Cup is still uncertain with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul returning to the side after long-standing injuries.
Speaking on the Follow the Blues on Star Sports, Suryakumar Yadav said that he will try to perform the role assigned to him in the ODI format of the game and believes that it is one of the most challenging formats for him, as it requires different gears at a different point of time in the innings.

“I will try and perform the role assigned to me. This is one format I am looking to do well. Everyone keeps saying that my T20 is going well but why can’t I crack the ODI code? That’s the exact word but I am practicing. I feel this is the most challenging format. You need to play all three formats in one – first with patience, then strike rotation and hit towards the end like T20 type,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
It was reported that the Indian team management has handed Suryakumar Yadav the new role of the finisher at the No.6 spot in the ODI team after his poor performance at the No.4 spot. The 32-year-old is capable of finishing games for the Men in Blue in the 50-over format of the game.
I’m Trying To Play More According To The Situation – Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav said that he has been talking to the coaches and the senior players around him to crack the code of ODI cricket and added that he is trying to play with the same aggressive approach in the 50-over format of the game and asserted that he is trying to play more according to the match situation.

“I have been speaking with Rahul sir, Rohit, and Virat so hopefully I will ‘crack this code’ starting this tournament. At least I am trying to maintain the same intent and approach. That shouldn’t change, but I’m trying to play more according to the situation. For example, if I am coming to bat in the 30th over, I can’t play like a T20I,” Suryakumar Yadav added.
The 32-year-old is considered one of the most innovative and naturally gifted batters in the world as he redefined the shorter format of the game in recent years, and can take the game away from the opponents in a short period but has struggled to get going in the ODI format of the game for India and would look to prove his worth for the Indian team in Asia Cup 2023.
