England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler feels that young batting sensation Harry Brook was unfortunate to miss out on England’s provisional squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. The 24-year-old was not part of the England provisional 15-men squad for the mega event as he was dropped from the squad in favour of Ben Stokes.
Harry Brook has shown the world his ability in International cricket in his limited international appearances, as the youngster can be a versatile batter in England’s batting alongside his medium-pace bowling in the side. Many believe that the right-handed batter’s underwhelming IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad in India could be the reason behind his non-selection in the team.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the 1st T20 game against New Zealand, Jos Buttler said that Harry Brook doesn’t have a point to prove to anyone and reckons that it was unfortunate for him to miss out on the selection for the marquee event and added that the team has got a lot of talents, of which few good players miss out due to the play combination.

“I don’t think he has a point. We all know what a fantastic player he is. He’s not missed out because he’s not at the moment. Yeah, he’s a top player, fully expect him to play really well, and that’s why he’s here. He’s a really good player. He’s unfortunate to miss out on selection at this stage, and that’s set up for a long time.
“We’ve got a lot of depth and talent and I think the young players coming through and pushing part of the team actually for the last few years, So it’s natural that good players miss out. That’s what happens in good teams,” Jos Buttler said.

Harry Brook was impressive for England in his short cricketing career so far in all three formats. The batter is expected to be a big part of the future of England cricket in the coming years. The 24-year-old could be the trump card in England’s title defence given his capability to take the game away from the opponents in a short period.
England is on the road in preparation for the ODI World Cup later this year, as they will be playing a match T20 and ODI series against New Zealand starting on August 30 and the Jos Buttler-led side will look to tick all their boxes going into the mega event in India.
