Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh backs young Indian opener Shubman Gill to come good for the Indian team in the forthcoming games following his string of poor performances in International cricket. The 23-year-old has blown hot and cold after his stellar performance for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023.

Shubman Gill replaced the Indian veteran Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order post-Bangladesh series in 2022 and has impressed everyone with his consistency but failed to get going in the recently-concluded West Indies series. He also had a poor outing against arch-rivals Pakistan in the opening game of the Asia Cup 2023.

During a discussion at India Today, Harbhajan Singh feels that too much cricket behind his back might be the reason behind his lack of runs in recent times. Singh reckons that he might have needed the break after the brilliant IPL season and hailed him as one of the quality players in the Indian team.

“I think this is because of too much cricket. He has been playing for quite a while now. He had a great IPL. Every player needs some rest because IPL is a very demanding tournament. You go to travel and also play every second day. I feel he just needs a bit of a break. He’s a quality player and there’s no doubt about that,” Harbhajan Singh said.

In the IPL 2023 season, the Indian youngster has slammed 851 runs at an average of 60.79 and a strike rate of 156.43.  Shubman Gill has been exceptional for the Men in Blue in his short cricketing career proving to be a vital cog across formats. Gill would look to find his form going into the important ODI World Cup in India.

I’m Sure If Shubman Gill Gives Himself A Bit More Time, He Going To Come Good – Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh backs Shubman Gill to return to his usual best to score runs for the team in upcoming games, as he has a brilliant technique. Harbhajan asserted that he might be confidence low in the game which is the reason behind his failure in the recent time.

“He will come back to form and start scoring runs. I believe there’s nothing wrong with his technique and the way he’s batting. But it’s just that his confidence is a bit low and I’m sure if he gives himself a bit more time, he’s going to come good,” Harbhajan Singh added.

Shubman Gill has been in terrific form, since the start of 2023, as he smashed two hundreds and a double hundred in ODI cricket. The youngster batter can be crucial for the team’s success in the upcoming mega event.
