Singapore-based batsman Rajendran Vijayababu, who is of Indian origin, got his name in the record books after hitting 244 not out off only 102 balls in Singapore on Sunday(July 31). The knock is now the highest individual score in a 30-over cricket league game in the country.
The monumental innings was studded with 44 fours and five hits over the fence. The knock helped Vijayababu’s team- Minnals to post a huge total of 380 for 2 against Avadh in a Pro30 match at the Bukit Timah Sport Field. In reply, Avadh could score only 182 for the loss of nine wickets in their 30 overs.
The record for highest individual score in a 30-overs game was previously held by Aslam Parvez, who had smashed 192 playing for Mariners Cricket Club against Meiji Mavericks on May 29 at the very same ground.
Almost all the top players from Singapore participate in this tournament, which is recognised by the Singapore Cricket Association.
The Asian country have been an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 1974. The minnows have played in every edition of the ICC World Cup Qualifier to date with the exception of the 1986 and 2005 tournaments. They also have played in each edition of the ACC Trophy. They finished third in the ACC Premier League in 2006 and passed the first round stage in the ACC Trophy, finishing fifth to qualify for Division Five of the World Cricket League two years later in 2008. The following year saw Singapore hosting and winnings the Division Six of the World Cricket League in 2009. The victory saw them making their way back to Division five.
