India’s hopes of winning a medal in the on-going Rio Olympics took a huge blow when boxer Vikas Krishan failed to assure a medal after losing his last-eight bout against his Uzbekistan opponent Bektemir Melikuziev.

Meanwhile, shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu kept the medal hopes alive in badminton after winning their respective matches.
The 21-19, 21-19 win for Srikanth made him the second shuttler after P Kashyap in the London Games four years ago to reach the last eight in men’s singles.
Later, two-time World Championship bronze medalist PV Sindhu advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s singles competition after notching up a dominating straight-game win over Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying.
Coming to the eleventh day, only two Indians will be in action.
