According to reports in Spanish news outlet Fichajes, left-back Lucas Digne, who signed for Spanish giants Barcelona this summer, rejected a chance to join English club, Liverpool. The French international completed a move to Nou Camp from Ligue 1 champions Paris St- Germain for an initial fee of £13.8m.
Liverpool were also interested in Digne last summer before he moved from PSG to Roma on loan for the season. Meanwhile, Roma wanted to make the loan deal permanent but failed as the highly-rated player had some other plans. According to the daily, the defender wanted to move to Spain and so any attempt to make him stay at Roma or bring him to Anfield would have not materialised.

The report claimed that the defender signed for Barcelona not for financial reasons as he looks to give a serious challenge to Barca’s number one choice for left-back position Jordi Alba in an attempt to secure a first-team spot as soon as possible.
One official from Barcelona revealed that the Catalan giants were following Digne because ‘he seemed an interesting player.’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was linked with several defenders to replace Spanish defender Alberto Moreno, who has failed to perform consistently at the Merseyside club. Apart from Digne, he was targeting Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and Germany international Jonas Hector. However, nothing concrete materialised and Klopp was compelled to play James Milner at that position.
