Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar surprised his fans in the southern Indian state of Kerala by appearing in a traditional “mundu” at the Jersey unveiling ceremony of Kerela Blasters-an Indian Super League football team.
Tendulkar was joined on the stage by co-owners Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna.
Tendulkar is a coowner of the ISL team. The ISL, since its inception in 2014, has played quite a part in taking football to the public in a cricket crazy country.
Obviously, having icons like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly (co-owner of Atletico de Kolkata), MS Dhoni (Co-owner of Chennaiyin, Virat Kohli (co-owner of FC Goa) only helped the tournament become even more popular.
The third season of the ISL will feature eight teams – Kerala Blasters, Atlético de Kolkata, Chennaiyin,
In the first edition of the ISL, Kerala Blasters lost to Atletico de Kolkata at DY Patil Stadium. And in the next season, Chennaiyin FC defeated Atletico de Kolkata.
Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket in 2012 and joined in the ISL which is owned by Nita Ambani and IMG. Sachin is a mentor of Mumbai Indians which is owned by Nita Ambani.
The new league started with a plan to make football popular in India ad that needs the help of cricketers who enjoy huge popularity in India. So their participation in the league is more like a strategic than a wish.
