Kalidou Koulibaly is set to go off the market as the player is on the verge of signing a new contract with Napoli with a massive £76million release clause, according to the latest reports.
Both Everton and Chelsea were keen to sign centre-back Koulibaly over the summer but had offered knocked back by Napoli.
The Naples club were under no pressure to sell after offloading Gonzalo Higuain on Juventus for £75m.
And although a January deal was mooted after deadline day passed, it now seems as though Chelsea and Everton will miss out on the Senegal international.
Koulibaly currently picks up £16,000 a week at Napoli and reportedly had the chance to quadruple those wages by moving to the Premier League.
He is supposedly set to secure a £33,000-a-week deal that will extend his stay in Naples until 2021.
And Everton, who sold John Stones to Manchester City in a deal worth just under £50m, signed Swansea’s Ashley Williams midway through August.
