Virender Sehwag salutes gold medalist Mariyapan Thangavelu 1

Mariyappan Thangavelu’s journey in life is no less than a fairy-tale. He lost one of his legs at a tender age of five when he was playing outside his house and a bus of the state-owned transport corporation hit him. His financial conditions is not good either as his mother is a vegetable seller and also works as a casual labourer. Life became even more tough for him after his father abandoned the family. But all these hurdles did not make him stop dreaming in life. He kept on working hard and he finally received the reward for his ‘never say die’ attitude when he made history on Friday(September 9) by bagging the gold medal in the men’s T42 high jump on the second day of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

He received lavish praise from all the corners of the country for his extraordinary achievement. And former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag was one of the many admirers of the Indian athlete. The swashbuckling opener, who is very active on Twitter nowadays after retiring from the game, gave a fitting tribute to the athlete for his heroic performance.
