The current year has seen the most number of batsmen scoring centuries in T20 cricket. It has witnessed 8 centuries the most in a calendar year. It has been a remarkable year in T20 cricket so far with lots of powerful batsmen like Chris Gayle, Maxwell. The batsmen have learned the art of batting and have dominated the batting.
The T20 format was played on 17th February 2005. Since then T20 format has been widespread and it has catched the imagination of people all over the world. The T20 World Cup is being held and is a success with people watching the matches with full interest.
In the year 2007, only 1 century was scored by Chris Gayle. In the year 2008 and 2009 batsmen were not able to score centuries with ease.
In 2010, 3 batsmen scored centuries in the shortest format. Suresh Raina, Mahlea Jayawardne and Brendon Mucllum scored centuries. In the year 2011, 1 batsman scored centuries. The only batsmen to score century in the year 2011 was TM Dilshan.
In 2012, 4 batsmen scored centuries as they understood the format much better. Brendon Mcullum, Richard Levi, Martin Guptil and Richard Berrignation scored centuries. In the year 2013, Aaron Finch scored the highest indidvual score in t20 cricket. In the year 2014, only 2 batsmen scored centuries. The batsmen who scored centuries were Alex Hales and Ahmed Shezazad.

Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle scored the first century in T20 cricket. He scored 117 not out in the first match of ICC World Cup 2007 held in South Africa. It was a mind-blowing century with lots of sixes in the first match. During that innings he smashed 10 sixes and 7 fours. He played this knock on 11th septemember 2007. Because of his knock West Indies scored 205.
