This was not what the New Zealand team was expecting on their arrival to the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, the pitch was exactly opposite to the expectations of New Zealand team, Greenish and grassy. They were in hope for a turning wicket but were surprised to see a fresh, green and grassy pitch at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. This is the only practise game which the New Zealand team is scheduled to participate in, it looks like they are not be pleased with the pitch nature and colour. However, none of the touring officials complained regarding the nature of the pitch.
When asked regarding the greenish nature of the pitch, the DDCA vice president and former opening batsman of India, Chetan Chauhan said, “We don’t take instructions from anybody. The host association is responsible for preparing good pitches. This is the first game of the season. That’s why the pitches are fresh and green,”
On Wednesday morning, the New Zealand team was the first one to reach the stadium; they had a practise session for hours at the nets of gate no. 1. The batsmen were having a good time whereas it was the spinners who were mostly seen in the nets.
The Mumbai team, however, was not able to practise as the moment they reached the ground; it started raining heavily which was enough to washout the Mumbai training session. The Mumbai team will now have just one practise session, may be an extended one before the 3-day practise game at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.
