The term “fitness” in cricket has been entirely redefined by the enigma of a superstar called Virat Kohli. The Indian batting heartthrob is by far the fittest cricketer on this planet and that is quite evident by his athletic displays in the middle. Kohli, himself in an interview a few weeks ago admitted that the combination of weight training and high intensity cardio had brought about a change in his batting.
It was after India’s successful campaign in Sri Lanka last year, when Kohli began his rigorous fitness regime. The athletic batsman, who has an extremely low body fat percentage, believes stringently in paying more attention to his lower body movements. Being the soul of India’s batting lineup, Kohli needs to be fit enough to grind it out in the middle in all circumstances. While fitness is integral to clear the ropes and hit boundaries, the significance of it elevates when it comes down to running quickly between the wickets.
Kohli has numerously uploaded videos of his elite fitness level training in the past on his official Instagram account. The Delhi star is a hardcore follower of weighted compound movement exercises such as the “Clean squat”.
In a recent video uploaded by Kohli, the batting icon provides an insight into his cardio routine. In the clipping, Kohli is seen cycling at a high intensity, following it up with insane short bursts on the treadmill. One just remains awestruck by Kohli’s perfect fitness regimen.
In his video description, Kohli mentions the following:
“Sneak peek into my morning cardio session. 15 minutes on the bike at level 3 maintaining an rpm of 120 throughout then straight onto the treadmill for 10 strides of 20 seconds each and step on the sides for 10 seconds rest in between. 10 of these back to back at a speed of 19 km/hr and level 1 on incline. All of this using the altitude training mask which makes it twice as hard. Train hard train smart. Wish everyone a active and healthy day”
