Huge boost for Liverpool fans as Steven Gerrard talks about his chances of returning to the club 1

The longest serving player for English outfit Liverpool, Steven Gerrard, is into his last season of professional football in the US at the MLS.

The English international left his boyhood club last summer after not being handed a contract extension by the then manager Brendan Rodgers but has not been able to have the kind of an impact he would have wanted for the LA Galaxy side in the MLS.

He has scored a couple of decent goals for the side and has been a constant presence in the midfield but he has not been able to set the league on fire and is slowly contemplating ending his playing career at the club.

In a video released by LA Galaxy, the 36-year old spoke about his time in the US and his chances of coming back to England after the end of his 18-month contract with the MLs outfit.

Gerrard said: “At my age now, 36, I know I’m in the twilight, i know it’s coming to the end pretty soon. I just want to enjoy every last moment really.”

He went on to say that he was not yet ready for retirement mentally but his age might see him play his last season of professional football for LA Galaxy, who are currently at the 2nd place in the points table just 4 points behind the leaders.

He went on to talk about his relationship with the current Liverpool manager and revealed that it will not take too much for him to accept a way back to his boyhood club at the end of his contract.

He revealed that he has a very good relationship with the German manager but said that he has not had an offer from the club for his to join the side.

“Jurgen Klopp’s his own man, he’s got his own team of people around him that he’s very happy and content with. Of course I’ve got a huge Liverpool connection and Liverpool is in my heart and always will be but there’s nothing to really comment on.”

“There’s no future decision to work with Klopp, I get on very well with him, we’re in contact but there’s no job opportunity there at the moment,” he added.

He also went on to reveal that he will be the first one to announce his comeback to Liverpool if and when it happened and said that he is still pondering over his commitments for the future.

“if I had something to say I wouldn’t keep supporters waiting, I’m not the type of person that would keep something under my hat and wait and delay.”

“There’s absolutely nothing to say on my future beyond this MLS season. What I can say is the phone’s going, and people are enquiring ‘what is the next move’ and I am chewing over a lot of different things in my head but there’s nothing to announce at the moment,” he added.

He also spoke about the new main stand at Anfield and revealed that he is happy that the club decided to renovate the same stadium and decided not to move out of the ground.

“I’m just so happy and pleased that they’re developing that stadium and not moving to a new stadium. It’s got a lot of history there and a lot of special moments.”

“I’m really looking forward in the future to go back and watch Liverpool there and enjoy the atmosphere,” he added, keeping the fans of the club waiting for a news of his return.

Gerrard is easily one of the best players to have played of the club in its history and his addition to the club, in whatever capacity, will only make the whole club a lot stronger. However, it will be interesting to see if Klopp decides on giving Gerrard an important role in the side in years to come.

“I have lived in Liverpool all my life, so I’m always going to have a special bond towards the city and the people. That’ll always be my base going forward because I’m a Scouser, I’m a home boy, but I’m absolutely loving this experience, I’m really happy,” the Kop hero said, before signing off.

Do you think Stevie G will be back at Liverpool before the end of the season?
