After being on the backfoot for the first two days in the first Test against New Zealand, the Indian team finally showed the form that saw them reaching the pinnacle of Test cricket a month ago. And the charge was fittingly led by the man who is arguably the biggest performer for India in this format- Ravichandran Ashwin.
After dismissing the Indian team for 318, the visitors were in a strong position after ending the day two on 152 for the loss of one wicket. India were in dire need of a breakthrough to claw their way back into the match and Ashwin rose to the occasion. He dismissed both the set batsmen (Tom Latham and Kane Williamson) early to set the platform for the Indian team. He dismissed Latham LBW but his ball to dismiss the New Zealand skipper is arguably the ball of the match.
The off-spinner bowled one short and well outside the off and in an attempt to cut it, Williamson went to the back foot. However, the ball took a huge turn, and the batsman tried to adjust and block it but it was too late and the ball dislodged the bails. Williamson stood on the pitch completely shell-shocked as Ashwin added one more wicket to his already impressive wicket-haul of this year.
