Wenger admits, this is what Chelsea victory has done to Arsenal 1

The Gunners beat Antonio Conte’s side with goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil, who helped to secure the team’s fourth Premier League win of the season.

Wenger says the win will help the team with their belief in their ability, and inspire them to continue to produce high-quality football.

“I’m a very happy man because we produced the quality of football we want to produce,” Wenger told the club’s official website. “If I had told you that before the game, we would all have signed up.

“That’s why we all love the game – because it can give you this kind of spectacle that you want to see. That should give us the taste to want more and hopefully it will.

“The intensity [to our display] is a little bit linked with belief. When you have a doubt in your mind, you’re hesitant and that’s what I could feel against Southampton. We redressed it well against Hull, at Nottingham Forest and again here.”

Sanchez has now netted four goals and made two assists in six games, while Walcott has netted two and created an assist and Ozil has scored two goals in five games.

Arsenal had a shaky start to the season following a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool and 1-1 draw over title champions Leicester City, but shown confidence in their four consecutive wins.

Arsenal next face FC Basel in the Champions League before travelling to Turf Moor to take on Burnley in their next Premier League clash.

It’s a big game for Arsenal, who were held to a 1-1 draw by PSG in their opening Champions League match of the season – anything other than three points will seriously compromise their chances of going into the last 16.

But after a 3-0 drubbing of Chelsea on Saturday evening, confidence could scarcely be higher in Arsene Wenger’s side after one of their finest performances in a long time.

Then again, that’s a statement which has traditionally been made every Autumn and Spring, immediately before an injury crisis undermines the Gunners’ chances of glory.

The Londoners are on a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions and have plundered 11 goals in three games since a late Alexis Sanchez strike secured what could prove a vital 1-1 draw in Paris two weeks ago.

With the French champions struggling for form, Arsenal seemingly have a huge opportunity to buck their recent Champions League trend by winning their group and potentially avoiding a seventh straight last-16 exit against one of the competition’s big guns.

But while the visit of Basel may appear straightforward on paper, the Gunners would do well to avoid underestimating their latest opponents, who have developed a taste for upsetting English sides in recent years.

The Swiss champions snatched four points from Manchester United in the Champions League group stages in 2011/12 and then picked up home and away wins over Chelsea in 2013/14, as well as beating Tottenham over two legs in the Europa League quarter-finals in 2012/13.

Basel have also made an ominous start to their domestic title defence, rattling off nine straight wins, although they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Group A outsiders Ludogorets on matchday one.
