India’s all time great and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev will become the first person ever to ring the bell at Eden Gardens ahead of the second test that is set to begin on 30th September.
The Cricket Association of Bengal have decided to install a bell similar to that of Lords and this will be the first test in which the bell will be rung. The iconic stadium will play host to India’s 250th home test as the team has lot of great memories in the ground.
CAB president Sourav Ganguly has decided to invite 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev to inaugurate the tradition of ringing the bell at Eden Gardens as Kapil Dev has accepted the request of Sourav.
The bell will ring five minutes prior to the start of the game and the Bengal cricket association have arranged a special ceremony. The players and umpires will walk out to start the match once the bell is rung by Kapil Dev in an auspicious event at the Eden Gardens.
Speaking about the event, Kapil Dev said: “I have done it at the Lord’s but doing it at our own ground, and that too the Eden Gardens will be an honour for me. It was sweet of Sourav to think of me as the first one to ring it and I am looking forward to it.”
“Today it is me, tomorrow it will be somebody else. That’s how I see it and former players will feel part of the action. Eden Gardens is one of the most special grounds for Indians and you feel the aura around that place when you go out there. It will be a special moment for me too. I wish Sourav, CAB and the cricket-loving people in Kolkata the best of this Test match,” Kapil added.
Kapil Dev will also be at Eden Gardens for the reminder of the match as he will be doing the commentary for the game after the bell event.
