Swansea City v Liverpool: Player Rating After A 2-1 Victory For The Visitors 1

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool compensated for a mediocre first half display at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday by coming back from a goal down to take all three points and move into the 2nd place in the points table early this season. Leroy Fer gave the Swans an early lead from a corner but Roberto Firmino’s header and James Milner’s penalty were enough for the Reds to clinch their 4the consecutive victory, something they have done for the first time under Klopp. Here are the player ratings for the side in this game:

Loris Karius (4):

Nowhere near the calming influence that Liverpool need in-between the sticks but generally handled things pretty well inside his box.  A bit hesitant at times but will learn the more he plays.

Nathaniel Clyne (6):

His usual self on the flank making a number of important contributions at both ends of the field but was caught out in the build up to the first goal from the corner.

Joel Matip (6):

Stuck to his task well and kept the Swansea attackers at bay for most of the game. Also played some lovely passes through to his attackers to set up Liverpool’s attacks.

Dejan Lovren (6):

Should have done better to stop Leroy Fer’s goal from the corner but was a solid presence at the back for the side for most of the game.

James Milner (5):

Apart from the penalty he scored, Milner was all over the place on the night, caught out of position on several occasions. Also gave away the ball cheaply on a night that was not his best.

Jordan Henderson (7):

His quick thinking gave Liverpool the chance to equalize as he showed his ability to control the midfield for Liverpool. He was commanding in the middle of the park and ran the game for his side.

Adam Lallana:

Played just over 20 minutes before picking up a groin injury and might be out of the qualifiers for England in the international break.

Georginio Wijnaldum (6):

The Dutch international was involved in some exciting moves in the final third but was not able to run the midfield like his manager would have wanted him to on the night.

Sadio Mane (7):

Showing consistency by the game, the Senegalese winger was a constant threat in attack for Liverpool as he made a number of intelligent runs in the second half to help his side all the way through the game.

Roberto Firmino (8):

One of the few Liverpool players to have an impact in the first half on the night, Firmino, got himself on scoresheet with a header, and also won the penalty that James Milner converted to give Liverpool all three points on the night.

Swansea City v Liverpool - Premier League

Easily the man of the match for Liverpool.

Phillipe Coutinho (6):

Showed his class on a couple of occasions but generally looked off color as he was no able to take full advantage of the few openings that he created for himself.

Subs:

Sturridge (6):

Came in with more than an hour to play on a frustrating night for the striker who was not able to get himself on the ball quite enough. However, he managed to create just enough to keep his side in the hunt.

Divock Origi (6):

Came in too late in the game to have a genuine impact but provided a fresh pair of legs that got them through to the final whistle.

Emre Can (6):

Did extremely well in the few minutes he got, breaking up the Swansea play more than once and also creating a half chance for his side all in a short span.
