Morgan Schneiderlin not good enough to be a regular, says ex-Manchester United striker 1

Former Manchester United striker Michael Own feels that midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is not good enough to be a regular starter for the Red Devils.

The 26-year old has moved to Old Trafford from Southampton last summer under Louis van Gaal but has failed to pin a place in the first team since his arrival.

The signing of Paul Pogba by Jose Mourinho meant his first team opportunities are seriously limited under the new manager as he has only managed 170 minutes in the current season so far.

However, the ex-Manchester United striker believes that Jose Mourinho will not go with an attacking midfield duo in their next Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield as it could open up the Red Devils defense.

Owen feels that Morgan Scheneiderlin could be given a chance for the game against Liverpool after the international break to limit the threat from the Reds’ attackers but feels that he is not good enough to be a regular starter for the club.

‘When you think that the strength of Liverpool’s game is deep runs from midfield, I bet my bottom dollar that it won’t be Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba against Liverpool at Anfield. He [Mourinho] would be really brave to do that,’ Owen told BT Sport.

‘I think it should be Michael Carrick or Morgan Schneiderlin, although I don’t think he’s quite good enough to be a Manchester United regular.

‘Marouane Fellaini I don’t think understands that role in this team so much.

‘I would pick Carrick – or you could pick Herrera and Carrick and have Pogba as a number 10.’

Morgan Schneiderlin was signed by Manchester United last summer for a massive £24 million on a four-year contract. He has managed 39 appearances for the club last season but so far has failed to make an impact in the limited opportunities he had under Mourinho as the manager is preferring Pogba and Herrera in the central midfield.
