We should have won this game, the loss is disappointing: Mortaza 1

The dejected Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza has criticised the approach of Bangladesh batsman in the slog overs against England after their loss to the visitors, “This is also disappointing because successfully chasing 309 would have sent the team to a great position mentally, we couldn’t take the chance to go 1-0 up. A loss is a loss but when it is like this, it is quite tough on us.”

“We should have won this game. We needed 39 runs from 52 balls with six wickets in hand” said the Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza.

After winning the toss, the visiting England team decided to bat first but lost few early wickets. Ben Duckett and Ben Stokes then came to the rescue sharing 153 runs for the fourth wicket sailing team from a total of 63 to 216 in a matter of 26 overs. The succeeding batsmen continued the assault and put up a total of 309 runs on the board. Bangladesh batsmen were quite confident of chasing the target as one of the team members, before the start of the series said that Bangladesh can even chase a total of 500. OK!

Well, the tigers were on a right track and were on a driving seat till 42nd over before the crowd witnessed one of the biggest slumps in the history of Bangladesh cricket. The last six batsmen could just add 17 runs to the team’s total and England team went onto to clinch the first ODI.

It seemed like the Bangladesh batsmen are presenting their wickets to England bowlers for agreeing to tour the country despite security issues. Jake ball was the trump card for his team as the bowler went onto to scalp five wickets and helped his team to kick off the tour on a positive note.

This loss reminded Captain Mashrafe Mortaza of the lost game against India during the T20 World Cup 2016 as he said: “We also lost to India in the World T20 this way”.

Surely, the Bangladesh team needs to fix this problem as it can be quite problematic for them if this continues to penetrate in their camp.
