Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawane shatters 70 years old partnership record 1

The Maharashtra opening batsmen Swapnil Gugale and right-handed batsman Ankit Bawane has shattered the record of highest run partnership in Ranji Trophy as the pair went on to pile up a mountain score of 594 runs amongst themselves. They eclipsed the record of Vijay Hazare and Gul Mohammad who shared a total of 577 for Baroda playing against Holkar in the year 1946-47.

At one stage, Maharashtra was stuck in a difficult situation as they lost two wickets on a mere score of 41. It looked like they will witness an epic fall once again as they did not have the last match half-centurion and captain Kedar Jadhav in the team but the young pair of Bawane and Gugale, on the flat Wankhede track went on to steer the team to post a record total on the board.

The 25-year-old right-handed opener Swapnil Gugale scored a triple century as he scored 351 runs. This can be life turning innings for him as he hasn’t enjoyed much success in 6 years of his domestic career as these years; he has made an appearance in only 17 First-class matches. He has just scored 2 centuries but today was his day and the opener went on to shatter many records along with his partner Ankit Bawane.

Ankit Bawane, the former India under 19 players made his debut for Maharashtra as a 15-year-old kid but till now he hadn’t done anything in his career which could have brought him into limelight but with this innings, he has attracted attention towards himself as he was one of the guys who was the partner in this record breaking partnership.

Now, this partnership is overall the second highest partnership in first-class cricket as the former Sri Lankan greats Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene tops this list as both shared 624 runs against South Africa in a Test match in the year 2006.

The Delhi bowlers after getting early success, toiled for 165 over empty handed before the Maharashtra team decided to call it for the day after posting a mammoth total of 635 on the board.
