Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said that Virat Kohli is the best batsmen in the world at the present moment. He rates Kohli better than De Villiers and Joe Root. His ability to play all strokes and win the games makes him a great batsman.
“He’s got many hundreds and most have come in the match-winning situation. It’s tough for me to pick one. When you 25 hundreds it is very difficult to remember all of them but I think the one in Hobart against Sri Lanka was a special innings,” Ganguly told India today.
“He’s such a special one-day international player and amount of runs he has scored overseas in tough conditions is unreal. As I said when you get 25 centuries it’s very difficult to count them in 1 and 10 in order but me for what stands out is that all those hundreds have made India win cricket matches so that’s why they are special,” the prince of Kolkata added.
During the commonwealth bank match against Sri Lanka, India needed to get 321 in 40 overs. Sachin Tendulkar and Sehwag put on 54 in 6.2 overs. Virat Kohli and Gambhir put on 115 runs for the third wicket, followed by unbeaten 120 runs stand with Suresh Raina to help India chase down the target in 36.4 overs. Virat Kohli remained not out on 133.
His form in all formats of cricket in 2016 has been outstanding which shows that he can become one of best batsmen in the world in future. He played a match winning knock of 85 during the first ODI against New Zealand which helped India to win the match by 6 wickets.
