Time and again, Arsenal manager has said that he does not like the concept of Ballon d’Or as football is a team game and his latest gaffe up proves that he really keeps a big distance from the award. The French tactician has mistakenly congratulated Mesut Ozil for being nominated in the 30-man shortlist for the biggest individual award in the game.
France Football announced the 30-man shortlist for the 2016 Ballon d’Or this week, but the Germany international missed out on making to the list.Ozil had a brilliant last season in which he registered 20 assists but failed to make the cut. However, his manager was confident that the playmaker had made the list.

Speaking ahead of the game against Sunderland, he said:“Certainly, there is a big satisfaction for him and for us as well, but I am against it because I think it gets in the head of players.”
“We have seen many people only thinking about themselves because they are obsessed by Ballon d’Or and not by the team performance and I believe football is a collective sport and we live already in a world where everything is individualized.
“We want to respect what football is about, first about the team effort.
“Of course, I encourage and congratulate the players who do well and I’m happy for that.
“But when you look at the history you do not always think that it has been the most objective decision always and I think that the players who are the best, we know very well about them.
“Let’s take care of those who are not as much in the glory. The best – we know all about them.”
Meanwhile, not a single player from the North London club was able to make the cut for the prestigious award. Eight players from the Premier League were nominated in the list.
