Riding on Shane Dowrich and Kraigg Brathwaite’s brilliant half-centuries, West Indies defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the last Test of the three-match series to end the disastrous tour on a high.
After being whitewashed in the T20 and ODI series, Jason Holder’s team made a remarkable turnaround in the longest format of the game and gave stiff competition to the world number two team. They had their chances in the first two Tests but poor batting saw them losing on both the occasions. And they were in danger of losing this Test too but Dowrich and Brathwaite’s partnership helped them to salvage some proud.
From the very first day of the Test, the Carribean team had taken the command of the match by dismissing the hosts for 281. In reply, they scored 337 with the help of Brathwaite’s brilliant century. The West Indies bowlers continued their fine performance in the second innings too as they dismissed Misbah-Ul-Haq’s men for 208. Chasing 153 to register their first away victory over Pakistan in 26 years, West Indies batsmen were looking set to blow another golden opportunity after being reduced to 67 for 5. But the first innings centurion Brathwaite and Dowrich shared an unbeaten partnership of 87 runs to take their team home.
