IND vs ENG 2016: No Threat To Series Due To BCCI's Problems, Says ECB Spokesperson 1

The India vs England five-match Test series is all set to get underway from November 9 at Rajkot. An England Cricket Board (ECB) spokesperson has cleared there would be no threat to the much awaited series due to Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) financial woes.

Earlier, BCCI’s secretary Ajay Shirke had made it clear to the England and Wales cricket board that BCCI would not bear the expenses of the England cricket team due to their financial concerns. He had asked the ECB to take care of the expenses of the players as the BCCI is having some financial shortages.

The ECB spokesperson told PTI that they are eagerly looking forward to the Test series against India and there are no possibilities of it to get cancelled due to Indian board’s problems.

“We are already in India, there is no change to any plans and we are looking forward to the series against India.”

The home board makes all the arrangement for the visitors according to the rules and thus Shirke had approached the Lodha panel looking for some directions. But the BCCI had made it clear that they would not bear the expenses of the visiting team which provoked Shirke to approach the Lodha committee appointed by the Supreme court.

The Lodha Panel also said the payments would be made directly by the BCCI. And in this case, the committee cannot give any directions unless relevant details are produced by the BCCI.
