It’s stumps on day 4 of the first test of South Africa’s tour of Australia and the visitors are ruling it. South Africa are well on the top as Australia needs to make 370 runs more to beat south Africa as they stand at 169 with the loss of 4 wickets. There is almost zero chance of rainfall on the final day which makes it even tougher for Australia to escape with a draw. They day was filled with South African magic with Temba Bavuma’s heroic on the field the most notable act. Kagiso Rabada’s bowling was also an important factor as he bowled superbly in the second innings taking 3 of the 4 Australian wickets to fall on day 4.

Faf du Plessis allowed his lower order to provide some magic delaying the declaration as Vernon Philander and Keshav Maharaj impressed lower down the order. Vernon Philander scored 73 of 143 deliveries which included 10 boundaries and 2 biggies. Keshav Maharaj’s innings was a cameo where he scored a quick 41 of just 34 balls which included 3 shots which went over the top of the rope.

But the most impressive act of the day came from Temba Bavuma who managed to dismiss the dangerous David Warner whose form at the WACA has been nothing short of exceptional. Warner was batting on 35 when he pushed a Kagiso delivery to cover and tried to reach the other end quickly. But Bavuma was up to the task and quickly hit the stumps before warner could get in. Kagiso Rabada bowled exceptionally to dismiss Steve Smith, Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh.

Australia has a mountain to climb on day 5 but if they can successfully chase down South Africa’s 539 then they would create history. However, the Proteas are in pole position to clinch the first test as they need to get 6 more wickets to reach to victory.
