Jurgen Klopp Clears All Doubts Over Liverpool’s January Transfer Plans 1

Liverpool are flying high in the Premier League right now, but could face one or two problems in the winter.

With Danny Ings ruled out for the rest of the season and Sadio Mané due to travel to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal in January, the team could begin to look a lighter on top – an eventuality that Klopp is already preparing for.

Speaking to the media ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Watford on Sunday, the manager suggested that while three strikers (Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi) will probably be enough, Mané’s absence deprives him of a winger for a few weeks and he would be looking to rectify that:

“The Africa Cup of Nations we already knew about so we don’t need to be influenced or surprised by that, but it could be a moment when we approach the market.

“It’s not about how many strikers. Three strikers is enough, I think. But when Sadio is away we will be without a winger. We do not have many wingers, I would say.

“Roberto Firmino could play as a kind of a winger which would then just give us two strikers. It is a long way to go from January onwards and that month of January is busy.

“If we can go to the semi-final of the League Cup it could be the busiest month of the whole year. We need to be prepared for this for sure.”

Mané’s loss in particular will hit Liverpool hard. The 24-year-old has settled in seamlessly following a £34m move from Southampton in the summer, but he will be absent for the visit to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on January 16th, as well as his side’s welcoming of Chelsea to Anfield at the end of the month.

The Liverpool Echo go on to claim that Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic remains firmly on Klopp’s radar. The USA international was the subject of a failed £12m offer towards the end of the transfer window in the summer just gone, and while his breakout form this year suggests the Bundesliga are even less likely to sell now, the report claims that Klopp could still make a January move for his
