Rohit Sharma All Set To Miss England ODI Series 1

After missing the England series due to a thigh injury, Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the Test series against Australia too after undergoing a successful surgery in London.

The right-handed sustained the thigh injury in the fifth ODI against New Zealand in Visakhapatnam on October 29 and himself admitted that he could be out for as long as three months if he goes under the knife.

He had said:“The picture is not fully clear. I think in one or two days the picture will be more clear, whether it (surgery) is happening or not. It is an important decision if we do surgery. If I do the surgery, I cannot play for 3 to 3 and half months. We are waiting for the doctors’ opinion, let’s see what happens.”

Well, the Mumbai batsman has gone under the knife and it is expected that he will be out of action for 10-12 weeks, which effectively rules him out of the Border-Gavaskar series which begins on February 23.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement to inform about the player’s successful surgery.

“The medical team of the BCCI confirms that India batsman Rohit Sharma underwent a surgery on his right thigh on Friday, November 11, 2016 in London. The procedure was successful and Rohit will be discharged from the hospital in the next 24 hours,” the statement said.

“BCCI medical team is constantly monitoring his treatment and will oversee his recovery, towards becoming match fit,” it added.

The right-handed batsman too took to Twitter to inform that the surgery had gone well. He tweeted:“All went well. Thank you for your good wishes. Can’t wait to be back at it.”

The injury setback will be a big blow for the batsman, who was finally looking good in the white jersey. Always criticised for his failure to score runs in the longest format of the game, Rohit did well in the Test series against New Zealand. He was the fourth highest run-getter in the series with 238 runs, including three half-centuries.
