Quinton De Kock, South Africa’s wicket-keeper batsman, who is probably in form of his life, has been compared with Australian legend Adam Gilchrist. The 23-year-old batsman went on to score his second Test century of his career and helped the Proteas gain a lead of 241 runs over Australia. He, along with Temba Bavuma, shared 144 runs for the sixth wicket before being bowled by Josh Hazlewood, who scalped sixth wickets in Hobart Test.
Comparison with Adam Gilchrist is surprising but yes his batting style, innocence and having a same role in the team automatically helps him to be called as next ‘Gilly’. However, de Kock does not agree to these comparisons.
“I don’t try to play like him, it’s just the way I play, I don’t see myself being like him, I just see the ball, hit the ball type thing, have my own certain game plan,” de Kock said.
“So that’s the way I like to play. Some days I can get off to a good start and keep a good momentum for the team, and some days I am going to need to grind it out. The conditions determine how I play.”
Quinton de Kock was tipped to be a class act since he made his debut. He has been tumbling records and has now become a big asset for his team, giving them a great competitive edge over others. The good thing is he has transformed himself very well w.r.t each format. He is performing multiple roles in each format and has done everything right in his short career so far.
de Kock is the player which a captain strives for. Surely, he is the next big thing in cricket but he has to maintain his form and composure in order to own this badge lifelong.
